No Further Action NFA Definition
What is No Further Action (NFA) letter?A No Further Action (NFA) letter, notice or determination is an official (often written) determination issued by the relevant environmental regulatory agency stating that identified contaminants present at the property, or at any other location to which a discharge originating at the property has migrated, have been investigated and remediated in accordance with applicable remediation statutes, rules and guidance, to a standard appropriate for the intended use of the property and/or offsite locations affected by migrating contamination. Its scope may be comprehensive or it may be limited in scope (e.g., an NFA may address only a leaking underground storage tank at a property, while not covering other historic releases from other sources at the property). Also known as a No Further Remediation (NFR) letter in some jurisdictions.
