No Further Remediation NFR Definition
What is a No Further Remediation (NFR) letter?A No Further Remediation (NFR) letter, notice or determination is a formal (often written) determination issued by the relevant environmental regulatory agency stating that identified contaminants present at a particular property, or at any other location to which a discharge originating at the property has migrated, have been investigated and remediated in accordance with applicable remediation statutes, rules and guidance, and to a standard appropriate for the intended use of the property and/or offsite locations affected by migrating contamination. Its scope may be comprehensive or it may be limited in scope (e.g., an NFR may address only a leaking underground storage tank at a property, while not covering other historic releases from other sources at the property). Also known as a No Further Action (NFA) letter or notice in some jurisdictions.
